Wine lover?

Join locals and visitors alike to celebrate the arrival of the latest Beaujolais Nouveau in style on November 20th.
What’s the history behind the quintessential French event? The Beaujolais vineyard was already struggling to recover in the aftermath of World War II when a decree authorised winemakers to only cell their vintages from December 15th onwards. The wine producers weren’t happy and the Beaujolais Winemaking Union asked if their wine could be sold before December 15th. The authorities agreed on the condition that any lightly macerated Beaujolais sold before then was marketed as Beaujolais Nouveau. Fast forward to 1985 and the third Thursday in November became the official launch date for Beaujolais Nouveau. If you want to get in on the action and sample the vibrant red wine for yourself, you can head into pretty much any wine bar or restaurant and ask about it. Or you could make it extra special and join a 1-hour cruise on the Seine River with unlimited wine and passionate experts to guide you through a tasting session. It costs 25 euro and you can book online HERE.

History buff?

As we all know, November 11th is Armistice Day and a special day in the French calendar. You’ll be able to experience the event for yourself all day long since it’s a bank holiday in France, meaning ACCORD Paris is closed and you have a day off French lessons. Pay tribute to the brave souls who were killed or injured in World War I and II at 11am the Arc de Triomphe, when the French president lays a wreath in the French flag’s colours near the eternal flame of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in honour of all the French soldiers who died during the war.
If you want to delve deeper into the subject, make time to visit the Georges Clemenceau Museum in the 16th arrondissement to learn more about France’s prime minister in 1917, the nation’s last battles and the armistice agreement.
The museum is closed on bank holidays but it’s open Tuesday-Saturday in the afternoon (2pm-5.30pm). A great idea for a visit after your morning French course at ACCORD.

Christmas crazy?

The yuletide illuminations and decorations come to the city from mid-November onwards, so if you can’t resist a winter wonderland without the madness of December, this is the perfect month for you to visit. The Champs Elysées kicks off the show with a ceremony at 4pm on November 23rd (TBC) that sees the road turn into a pedestrian-only street with a brass band performance. A DJ hits the decks at 5pm to get everyone dancing before a French superstar turns the lights on at 7pm. Stick around once the illuminations are all lit up and the trees are glittering, because Father Christmas is next on stage for a sing-song then there’s another DJ set to burn up the dancefloor.
