With the Paris Olympics making any trip to the City of Lights a challenge this summer 2024, many of our study abroad customers have been enquiring about spending their holiday learning French in the South of France. We thought we’d introduce you to some of the highlights of a study abroad experience on the French Riviera whilst there’s still time for you to book your French language course this summer!
Study Abroad on the French Riviera
Learn the lingo
Active Languages works with Centre International d’Antibes, or CIA to you and me, which has summer schools in Antibes, Cannes, Nice and Biarritz. The names alone conjure up images of tree-lined promenades, golden beaches, blue skies, yachts bobbing on the sea and celebrities. The most popular course is the 20-hour course with lessons from 9am to 12.20pm every morning, leaving you free to spend your afternoons exploring everything the French Riviera has to offer. If you’d rather someone else takes care of the activities (it’s your holiday after all!), then book the full package with a French course, 4 afternoon activities plus studio accommodation on CIA’s culture programme or keep your fitness up on the sport programme! There are lots of options to choose from so the best thing to do is to get in touch with Active Languages and we’ll help you find the right course for you. Contact us now!
Summer camps for kids
There’s still time to book a summer camp for your kids to Study Abroad on the French Riviera! CIA stands out from the crowd for its all-inclusive programmes for children aged 6-17, with French lessons tailored to suit the age and ability of each child. The summer camp has its own student residence with 24/7 supervision by group leaders plus a full-board meal package. The kids spend their mornings in French class in classes of no more than 15 students. The summer campus itself is home to the school, bedrooms, canteen and sports pitches (football, basketball, volleyball etc.). In terms of outings, the kids go on a half-day excursion during the week and a day trip during the weekend to explore the South of France. The activity schedule for the afternoon includes sailing, trampolining, aquasplash, treetop adventure and so much more! The school even takes care of picking up and dropping the children off at the airport. With prices starting at 995 euros/week and including French lessons, accommodation, meals, trips, activities, new experiences and new friends, your children will have a summer holiday to remember!
Soak up the South of France
With good transport links between each city, you just have to choose which one you want to study in then use your free time to hop on a bus or train to visit the others. Monaco’s a scenic boat trip away from Nice and Cannes so you should schedule a trip to the principality whilst you’re nearby! No trip to France would be complete without sampling the local specialities, so here are a few to get your mouths watering:
- Socca, a gluten-free chickpea flatbread that you can pick up at street food stands
- Pissaladière, a savoury dough topped with braised onions, anchovies and olives
- Pan Bagnat, a fluffy bun filled with classic Salade Niçoise ingredients
- Tourte de Blettes, a savoury tart filled with chard
- Panisse, chickpea chips
Sun? Check. Sea? Check. Sights? Check. Suitcases packed? Check. Let’s get you off to the South of France for your study abroad experience learning French at your choice of CIA school!
